Health of show, sport and match pitbulls
Health is the key to longevity of any dog breed. American Pitbull Terriers have very good health and here’s why.
Historically, American Pitbull Terriers are divided into two types: the first type is the show and sporting American Pitbull Terrier. The second type is match pit bulls. That is, those with whom they engage in illegal pitbull fighting. But for both, health is important, otherwise the dog will not be able to perform its function.
Kennels that sell show and sport pitbulls are very health conscious. The basis of health is prevention. Therefore, all American pitbull terriers undergo genetic breed tests. Each breed of dog has genes that carry diseases specific to a particular breed of dog. In American Pit Bull Terriers, these are tests for cerebellar ataxia, type 2 retinal atrophy, and hyperuricosuria. In our pit bull kennel “Dognik Bulls” all dogs are tested for the absence of these diseases. This means that puppies from our dogs will never suffer from these diseases.
Every year, every pit bull needs examinations to identify hidden or developing pathologies. The most basic thing that can be examined: detailed general and biochemical blood tests. The price of such an examination is approximately 100 euros. And this is also the price of peace of mind for your dog. In our American Pit Bull Terrier kennel “Dognik Bulls” all mother bitches undergo these examinations to be sure that they are healthy and can become pregnant. After all, only a healthy dog that walks a lot and eats well will give birth to healthy offspring.
We also recommend that pitbulls undergo cardiac echocardiography once a year.
In general, in exhibition and sports nurseries, they take good care of the health of pit bulls. After all, these dogs attend exhibitions and sporting competitions, where they receive serious stress.
As for pitbulls of the so-called “working breeding”. Often no one (virtually no one) tests them for the absence of breed genetic diseases. But since they participate in matches (that is, in illegal dog fighting), they are intensively trained. Strength and endurance training, special sports training methods, special nutrition and so on. After all, a match lasts from 20 minutes to several hours, sometimes even 3 hours. Every surviving dog is restored. And often then he goes back to matches. Therefore, all dogs that survived after this are 100% dogs with excellent health.
