Is it worth getting an American Pit Bull Terrier for a beginner, a person who has never had dogs or a dog was with his parents in early childhood?
In this article, we will only talk about buying a purebred American Pit Bull Terrier, and not a dog that looks like a pit bull and bought on any bulletin board or market for a small amount of money. A reliable confirmation of the origin of the American Pit Bull Terrier is the pedigree. The most commonly used are the ADBA and UKC pedigrees.
Often, beginners do not choose to purchase a pit bull as their first dog, since one of the breed features is zooaggression. This is aggression towards other dogs. It is more common in working breeding pit bulls, it is much less pronounced in show breeding pit bulls. Some matings in our cattery do not have pronounced zooaggression, some do. Therefore, we always say to beginners — describe your experience, your expectations from the dog and plans for the dog and its future life, and we will recommend you which specific matings in our kennel you need to consider.
In addition to zooaggression, it is worth remembering that the American Pit Bull Terrier breed is quite active. While the pit bull puppy is small, he needs to devote a lot of time, training and training. If you are over 60 years old, you want a dog with whom you will sleep in an embrace and sometimes walk in the park, this breed is not for you.
Pit bull terriers have very short hair and no undercoat at all, therefore they cannot live on the street (that is, in an aviary or in a booth), and their living in the Far North is also problematic. Therefore, if you live in a very cold region, a pit bull is not your choice of dog.
Is training a pitbull different from training any other breed? Cardinally no. But it is better to take individual lessons with a cynologist, as well as group lessons several times a month, so that your American Pit Bull Terrier has excellent contact with other dogs, and is also used to listening to you and only you in any dog pack.
