Zoopsychologist for shelter dogs

Cynolog Veronika Voitovska on radio
Good day. My name is Veronika Voitovska, I am a certified zoopsychologist. I have Ukrainian and British certificates in zoopsychology. I am an expert cynologist and an active judge at dog shows in Europe. Judge of sports competitions for dogs. Doctor. Owner of a large dog kennel. At the moment, there are 15 adult dogs in my kennel. I consult people and their dogs daily as a zoopsychologist. I consult all puppies and already adult dogs born in my kennel «Dognik Bulls». I speak on radio, television, write scientific articles. In short, I have just a huge real experience in zoopsychology, dog behavior and solving behavioral problems.
I also work with dogs from shelters. When I lived in Ukraine, I repeatedly picked up and slept with street dogs. There are a lot of them in this country. These are wild dogs, not used to people, to a house, to relaxing in a house. On the contrary, for many of these dogs, the house caused stress, and the street and open space — relaxation and understanding of the situation. It is the most difficult to work with such dogs. Usually, these are the dogs that end up in shelters in countries like Ukraine, Belarus, Russia. Dogs from shelters in Europe are a completely different situation. Since there are no homeless dogs in Europe, only dogs that were previously domesticated end up in shelters. Yes, they are used to their previous owners. Yes, they are stressed from the change of environment. But they are definitely familiar with ordinary, routine home life. A house, an apartment, people — this is not new to them. Most often, I work with such dogs with separation anxiety, with uncleanliness (feces and urine in the apartment or house), with barking. With a refusal to go outside. With rejection of a new family. With aggression and protection of their food. With aggression towards children. All this can be solved, the main thing is to understand the zoopsychology of dogs from the shelter. The reasons that led to such behavior. And the options for solving them for each dog are individual. Although personally I do not support the option of taking a dog from a shelter to small children. Children for dogs are unpredictable, unpredictable creatures and cause anxiety, sometimes aggression. If you choose the wrong dog (take too anxious, aggressive, even cowardly) — your child will answer for it. Therefore, it is better not to risk children. If you have children under 14 years old, then do not take a dog from the shelter. It is better to buy a dog from a breeder and take it at the age of two to four months. This is the most optimal age for getting used to the family. If you have already taken a dog from a shelter and it shows wariness or aggression towards a child, then you definitely need to consult a zoopsychologist. Personally, I will teach you to understand the signals of the dog’s body, to understand the moments when the dog can react to a child. I will teach you how to talk to your child about behavior near a dog. I will help build a hierarchical ladder between the child and the dog. In my opinion, this is the most pressing issue in zoopsychology for a shelter dog. Because if a shelter dog is afraid to leave the house, cars, sharp sounds, then this only harms the dog and we work with the dog. And in general, it is possible to achieve relaxation, understanding and acceptance of the situation in the dog’s head. But when a dog lives in a closed room with a child and watches at what moment it can bite him — this is a big problem. If you have a shelter dog with any problem, you can sign up for a consultation with me. By the nature of my work, I love all dogs and help everyone. And of course, I have experience and understanding of how exactly to help shelter dogs. If you have already taken a dog from a shelter and are looking for a zoopsychologist, you are doing everything right. You have saved a whole dog’s life. My task is to help you and the dog live comfortably and relaxed. To make an appointment for a consultation, write to me:
